Suspects posing as PHI officers drug residents and rob house in Mahawa

Three individuals impersonating Public Health Inspectors (PHI) are reported to have robbed a house in the Keththapahawa area in the Mahawa Police area yesterday.

It has been reported that the suspects had provided a type of pill for the residents to consume in order to conduct PCR tests.

The suspects had informed the residents that they had arrived to record information after it was reported that the group had visited Marawila recently.

The fake PHI officers had provided pills for the residents to consume in order to be subjected to PCR tests.

The residents are reported to have lost consciousness after consuming the pill and had reportedly regained consciousness the following day.

Upon waking up, they had found that a number of valuable things, including jewelry and money, had been stolen from the house.

The residents had thereafter filed a complaint with the Mahawa Police in this regard.
