Two more COVID deaths raises toll to 23
The Health Promotion Bureau yesterday reported another fatality from COVID-19, raising the overall death toll to 23.
The 23rd victim is a female (61) who died at her house in Colombo 15 yesterday. She was tested positive after a post mortem.
The 22nd victim was a 68-year-old female, who was pronounced dead on November 1 at her home in Jampettah Street in Colombo, Government Information Department stated. The Health Director-General has confirmed that her cause of death was ruled as COVID -19 related pneumonia. According to the Epidemiology Unit, her remains were subsequently referred to the Judicial Medical Officer for the post-mortem examination,
which posthumously declared that she was infected with the novel coronavirus.
One of the family members of the deceased was also previously tested positive for the virus while the rest of the members of the family were placed under quarantine at their residence.
In the meantime, the death toll was revised to 21 on Monday (2), after it was determined that the death of the 27-year-old, who committed suicide and posthumously declared to be infected with the virus, is not COVID-19 related.
Data from the Health Promotion Bureau indicated the total number of COVID 19 positive patients detected in the county has been increased to 11,335 by 10 am yesterday.
The Epidemiology Unit sources said that around 5,581 of them have been recovered while 5,733 remain in hospitals. The total number of persons who tested positive for the virus in the Minuwangoda coronavirus cluster rose to 7,856 by 10 am yesterday.
Meanwhile the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that a total number of 11,889 PCR tests were carried out across the country and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 536,337.
Within the day yesterday, 15 quarantined individuals after PCR tests left for their homes. Of them, 5 persons are from Dickwella Resort QC, 3 persons from Hotel Jetwing Blue QC and 7 persons from Ayurveda Ragjagiriya QC.
Over 62,917 individuals have left for homes after their quarantine.
