Minuwangoda no longer COVID danger zone – MOH

The Minuwangoda Divisional Secretariat Division is no longer a danger zone, Minuwangoda Medical Officer of Health Dr.Kumari Jayasuriya yesterday said.”Therefore, instructions have been issued to re-open three Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Division that have been isolated following the detection of COVID cases in the area,” she said.

She said was addressing a meeting at the Minuwangoda Divisional Secretariat yesterday under the patronage of Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga to discuss the issue.

She said that other MOH divisions in the Gampaha District are still Coronavirus danger zones and if the people of these areas are more responsible and taking care of themselves through self regulations, these areas, too, can be opened.

“The Brandix cluster caused the second wave of COVID-. Over 1,1000 PCR tests have been conducted in 121 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Minuwangoda Divisional Secretariat Division. The number of COVID-19 patients from the Minuwangoda cluster stands at 680. Three Grama Niladhari Divisions including Ginihimulla, Peralanda and Helakanda, which are near the Brandix Garment had been isolated following 48 people from Ginihimulla, 32 people from Peralanda and 16 people from Helakanda tested positive for COVID 19,” she said.

Two other people in Minuwangoda also tested positive for COVID-19 who had connection with the Peliyagoda Fish Market, she said.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga commended the Minuwangoda MOH and his staff for controling the spread of COVID 19 in the area.
