Batticaloa fortified against COVID-19

Those who came from other districts and are residing in the Batticaloa District, and employees in the district from other districts, and those who have visited other districts from Batticaloa and returned will be isolated and PCR tests will be carried out on them, Batticaloa Government Agent K.Karunagaran said.

He was speaking at a special meeting at the District Secretariat on Monday.

“Anyone in Batticaloa from another district has to report to respective health authority, Grama Niladhari, Divisional Secretary, and Police. Such persons have to undergo self-quarantine for 14 days. During this period, if they develop any health problem, they should seek treatment immediately,” he said.

The decision has been made after four people who had no connection with the Peliyagoda cluster had tested positive for COVID-19. Government officers who travel to outstations have to provide details of their vehicles to the District Secretariat.

“Visiting salons and such locations in areas other than Vellaveli, Paddipalai, Valaichchenai and Kaluwanchikudy are allowed to be opened. However, those places have to maintain a record of clients who visit them, the GA said.

Curfew in Valaichchenai has been extended a week. Those who do not follow health guidelines will be prosecuted. Government employees, as much as possible, should carry out their duties from home, the GA said.

State Minister S.Viyalendran, Batticaloa Parliamentarian Govindan Karunagaran, Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan, Additional District Secretary Sudharsini Sirikanth, DIG Laksiri Wijeyasena, and Regional Health Services Director S.Mayooran among others were present.
