COVID victim cremated

A body of COVID victim was cremated yesterday in keeping with the rules and regulations on disposal of bodies of those who die of COVID-19.

The body was identified that of 84-year-old Sheikh Abdul Cader, a resident of Deddugoda in Galle.

He had been admitted to the Karandeniya Hospital earlier this month and was discharged on December 17. He had died at his home of a heart attack.

His relatives had requested the hospital to hand over the body for the funeral rites. However, it had been kept in the morgue until the committee appointed by the Government conveyed its final decision on cremation or burial.

Galle Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana instructed the Police to assist with cremation. The body was cremated at the Daddala Cemetery yesterday.
