Ayurveda Committee allows clinical trial for Dhammika’s COVID tonic
The Pharmacology Committee of the Ayurveda Department has given approval to the anti-COVID-19 concoction prepared by Dhammika Bandara of Kegalle, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Plantations Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said.
The Minister was responding to a question by a journalist at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held online yesterday.
The Minister further said that the findings of the trials carried out by the Pharmacology Department are scheduled to be submitted to the ethical review committee today for ethical clearance. After that it will be subject to a clinical trial, he said.
Dr. Pathirana stressed that allopathic medicine is evidence based and it is compulsory to conduct a Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind, Randomised Clinical Trial before using this as a treatment in allopathic medicine.
Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof.Channa Jayasumana is currently working on a proper trial on this anti-COVID tonic.
