Rape Cases, Harassment Of Women Up In Delhi By 40% Till June 15; Heinous Crimes Down
<p><strong>New Delhi: </strong>As the nation battled the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Delhi Police data shows the crime against the feminine gender in the national capital was increasing at the same time.</p> <p>As per the data, the cases of rape and harassment of women in Delhi increased by around 40 per cent in the first five-and-half months of 2021 as compared to the corresponding period last year.</p> <p>The rape cases have increased by about 43 per cent this year, while the cases of outraging the modesty of women have gone up by 39 per cent. 1,022 such cases were registered this year as compared to 735 during the same period in 2020.</p> <p><strong>READ</strong>: <strong><a href="https://ift.tt/3hzOGbK Laundering Case: ED Summons Mehbooba Mufti’s Mother; PDP Chief Lambasts Centre</a></strong></p> <p>The cases of snatching have increased by 46 per cent in the period between January and June 15 as compared to the same duration last year. 2,436 cases of heinous crime were reported last year and a total of 2,315 cases have so far been reported in 2021.</p> <p>The cases of murder, riot and kidnapping for ransom have reduced, as per the data, while instances of dacoity, attempt to murder, robbery and rape have increased.</p> <p>The Delhi Police recorded 2,315 cases of heinous crimes, including seven of dacoity, 196 of murder, 295 of attempt to murder, 942 of robbery, 35 of riot, seven of kidnapping for ransom, and 833 of rape between January 1 and June 15, PTI reported.</p> <p>The national capital witnessed four cases of dacoity, 226 of murder, 236 of attempt to murder, 701 of robbery, 681 of riot eight of kidnapping for ransom and 580 of rape in the corresponding period in 2020.</p> <p>There is an increase in the number of riot cases courtesy, the communal clashes that had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 last year post violence between the Citizenship (Amendment) Act supporters and its protesters.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ</strong>:<strong><a href="https://ift.tt/3jKv4V2"> 'Ready To Appear Before UP Police, But...': Twitter India MD Puts Condition Before Karnataka HC</a></strong></p> <p>The number of non-heinous crimes has increased by over eight percent. A total of 1,20,980 cases of non-heinous crime have so far been reported this year, while the figure was 1,11,419 last year.</p> <p>There were 3,829 cases of snatching this year as compared to 2,612 in the previous year.</p>
