Chennai Metro Extends Commute Hours On Public Demand, Check New Timings
<p>Chennai Metro Rail services have been running with 50 percent seating facilities from June 21 following the announcement of relaxations given by the Tamil Nadu government after a month-long lockdown in the state in the wake of the second wave of coronavirus.</p> <p>However, with further relaxations of curfew in the state amid declining Covid -19 cases, demand for metro rail services has increased in the city following which Chennai Metro Rail has announced that the trains will be operated from 5.30 am to 9 pm with effect from Thursday.</p> <p>Following the announcement, the Chennai Metro Rail started its service an hour before today in order to cater to the demand and convenience of passengers.</p> <p>During peak hours i.e. from 8 am to 11 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm, the trains will run at the intervals of 5 minutes for an hour. The metro rail will be running at every 10- minutes intervals during normal commute hours.</p> <p><strong><a title="Also Read | Petrol, Diesel Become Costlier For Second Day, CNG Prices Hiked; Check Latest Rates" href="https://ift.tt/2Uzy6AI" target="">Also Read | Petrol, Diesel Become Costlier For Second Day, CNG Prices Hiked; Check Latest Rates</a></strong></p> <p>According to CMRL officials, it has also set up a special team to monitor Covid -19 appropriate behaviour of the passengers which includes wearing masks. </p> <p>As per the officials, so far it has levied Rs 6,800 on 34 persons who entered to metro premises without wearing a mask and without wearing it properly. </p>
