New PCR testing laboratory at BIA soon
A new PCR testing laboratory will be set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake for passengers during the next three weeks with the aim of providing PCR test results within three hours, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.
The vaccination programme for those engaged in the tourism sector will also commence today.
Accordingly, over five million in the tourism sector will be administered with the COVID-19 vaccine.
It has also been proposed to implement a relief travel package to attract more tourists after the vaccination.The revival of the crisis-hit tourism Industry will be achieved through the implementation of new tourism friendly strategies to bring in more tourists to the country, the Minister said.
He made these remarks during a discussion held with representatives of 25 airline companies in Colombo yesterday.
He added that the Government expects a considerable number of tourist arrivals at the end of this year. Therefore, It is necessary to implement health guidelines in a systematic and effective manner under a proper strategy, he noted.
Representatives of airline companies have stressed the need to introduce a relief travel package for tourists.
