The government aims to vaccinate 60-70 percent of the country’s population by the end of this year, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

He was responding to a question by a journalist who inquired whether the government has a plan to vaccinate all police officers, at this week’s Cabinet media briefing held yesterday.

The Minister said Sri Lanka had not been able to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine doses as expected by the government and that the World Health

Organization had not been able to provide the required number of vaccines under the COVAX facility.

Certain groups are making false allegations claiming that the government does not have sufficient funds to purchase vaccines. The government is committed to vaccinating each and every front-line worker, including the security forces.

The Minister said that out of nearly 85,000 police officers there are officers still not vaccinated but will take action to vaccinate all police officers in the near future.
