Army converts Monastery, Tea Factory into ICCs

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) converted the Kundasale Mahamevunawa Buddhist Monastery into an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) with the support of Health authorities and State agencies to accommodate 1,000 COVID-19 patients.

1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps troops and Corps of Engineer Services under the guidance of General Officer Commanding - 11 Division Maj, Gen, Kithsiri Liyanage involved in the project, the SLA said.

Meanwhile, troops of the 11 Division converted the Somerset Tea Factory in Gampola, Kurunduwatta to serve as an ICC for COVID-19 patients in the region.

Army personnel completed the project to accommodate 300 COVID patients, Army sources said.
