Bill Gates slammed the US coronavirus testing system, calling it 'absolutely useless' because results take so long

- Bill Gates says that testing is the worst part of the US coronavirus response, and the first thing he'd fix, if he were in charge.
- "The majority of the testing is absolutely useless, because the results don't come back in 24 hours," he told Insider in an interview earlier this week.
- Federal estimates suggest that roughly 25% of coronavirus tests are taking longer than three days to produce results.
- That makes it nearly impossible to contact trace an infection, warning others who've been exposed to a sick person to stay home, and preventing exponential disease spread.

"The saddest thing today is that the majority of the testing is absolutely useless, because the results don't come back in 24 hours," he told Insider in an interview. "Those are completely worthless tests."
