Court rejects petition seeking arrest of Karuna Amman
A petition filed seeking the arrest of former LTTE Commander Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman was rejected by the Court of Appeal today.
The petition was filed by member of the Kaduwela Urban Council Boseth Kalahepathirana over Karuna’s recent statement glorifying the killing of troops during the war.
Addressing a public gathering in the East in June, Karuna Amman had stated that he was more dangerous than the Coronavirus as he had killed between 2000- 3000 troops in Elephant Pass during the war.
Following his revelation, a number of individuals, including politicians had called for Karuna’s arrest and an investigation to be launched into the matter.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickremeratne had thereafter ordered the CID to immediately launch an investigation.
As part of the investigation, Karuna Amman was summoned before the CID and grilled for over 7- hours. (Newswire)
