Couple arrested over sexual abuse of 12 -year-old girl in Buththala

A suspect who had allegedly sexually abused an underage child residing in the Okkampitiya area in Buththala has been arrested along with his wife, who had assisted the crime.

The Okkampitiya Police said the 12 -year- old child, who is said to be their relative, had reportedly been taken to the suspect’s house by his wife where he had severely abused her.

The Okkampitiya Police had arrested the man and his wife based on a tip-off on the incident.

The child, who is reported to be suffering from a mental illness, has been admitted to hospital for a medical examination.

The two suspects are to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court, while the Okkampitiya Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
