Two passengers onboard separate flights from Nashville International Airport were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct this week, USA Today reported Wednesday.

One was travelling on a Spirit Airlines flight on Monday when they refused to wear a mask and called the crew members "vulgar names," according to an arrest affidavit seen by USA Today.

Spirit denied the passenger travel, the affidavit said, cited by USA Today. The person stayed overnight at Nashville airport to catch an American Airlines flight the next day, the affidavit added.

The passenger on Tuesday refused to wear a mask in the airport and on the flight, and was subsequently arrested, according to the affidavit, per USA Today.

Another passenger was also arrested on Tuesday after they became disorderly on a Southwest Airlines flight when they were asked by flight crew to wear a mask, USA Today reported a separate affidavit said.

The plane had to return to the gate, according to the affidavit, per USA Today.

The passenger smelled of alcohol, was shouting, and became aggressive towards authorities before he was arrested, the affidavit said, per USA Today.

Masks are still mandatory for travelers on planes, buses, and other forms of public transport.

The federal mandate was due to expire in September but the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on Tuesday extended it to at least January 18.

Nashville airport did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

An airport spokesperson told USA Today: "The safety and security of passengers, employees and guests is the utmost priority of Nashville International Airport.

"Working with our airline partners and adhering to the federal mask mandate, the airport's Department of Public Safety is committed to carrying out that mission and is fully trained and equipped to do so."
