Twenty nine Galle Police officers COVID-19 positive

Eight Police officers attached to the Galle Police have been infected with the COVID-19 virus and 29 Police officers have been quarantined at their homes, Galle Police sources said.

A Chief Inspector of the Galle Divisional Crime Investigation Division, two Sub Inspectors of Police, a PC and a WPC are among those who have tested positive for the virus.

Twenty nine associates of these officers serving in various divisions of the Police have been referred to quarantine. A Police Sergeant attached to the Galle Police has also died of COVID-19.

The deceased Police Sergeant had received the first dose of COVID vaccination in July. However, he had been admitted to the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital with fever.

There he was diagnosed with the virus and succumbed at the hospital. The activities of the Galle Police are being carried out as usual and officers are being called for service in duty shifts, Galle Police sources further disclosed.
