Ample supply of Oxygen assured

The Health Ministry has assured that there are no COVID-19 patients being treated on the floors of hospitals and that the country has a sufficient Oxygen supply for all the hospitals around the country, Consultant physician at the National Hospital Dr. Upul Dissanayake said.

He was speaking at a media conference held yesterday at the Health Promotion Bureau.

Dr. Dissanayake said that if somebody in a household is positive the others are also to be considered positive, whether they have a positive report or not. “If a person is suffering from a respiratory illness in the community, we have to consider it as COVID.

If you have a fever with no other cause, consider it either COVID or dengue, even if you are not positive. If one person in a family checks positive, you have to consider the whole family as positive,” he added.

If a member of a family tests positive for COVID, all family members should take an adequate amount of liquid (at least 2.5 litres of water and other liquids per day) and they need to rest since the lack of oxygen is the main reason for COVID deaths.

“If possible, you have to measure your Oxygen saturation level. If it is less than 96 you should go to hospital,” he said.
