‘Gatherings at funerals, festivals spreading COVID in Trinco’

The Trincomalee District COVID Task Force Meeting was held yesterday at the District Secretariat under the patronage of Parliamentarian and Coordinating Committee Chairman Kapila Nuwan Athukorala.

The number of COVID cases in the Trincomalee District is increasing rapidly. The main reason for the increase has been the gatherings of a high number of people at festivals and funerals. The Chairman said it was important to act responsibly to eradicate the disease and the public should support in this regard by isolating themselves to prevent the spread of the virus.

Government Agent and District Secretary Saman Dharshana Padikorala, said that the village committees covering the Grama Niladhari Divisions of the District have already been strengthened and by continuing to maintain these committees effectively, the people can be protected from the virus.

The Government Agent said that the public can control the pandemic through strict adherence to health guidelines such as avoiding unnecessary movement, gathering, wearing face masks and washing hands frequently as during the next few days the level of risk is very high.

Additional Government Agent J.S. Arulraj, Additional Government Agent (Land) P.R. Jayaratne, Divisional Secretaries, Senior Officers of the Armed Forces, Police and Health Officers participated.
