COVID-19 jabs provide much needed protection - Canadian study
The findings of a latest study in Canada reveal that COVID-19 vaccinations have provided much needed protection to people from the deadly pandemic.
The study which analysed data upto August 7 shows a large majority of new COVID-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths in Canada had been reported among the unvaccinated.
The data gathered by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has shown that among the total number of COVID-19 cases in the given period, 88.9 per cent were unvaccinated while only 0.8 per cent of the fully vaccinated had contracted the virus. It was also noted that only as low as 5 per cent of the partially vaccinated had contracted the virus. The study covers COVID-19 statistics in the country upto August 7.
Among the total number of hospitalisations, 84.7 per cent have been unvaccinated persons while 7.1 per cent partially vaccinated had been treated in hospitals. But It says that only 1 per cent of fully vaccinated people had needed hospitalisation due to COVID-19 complications. It has also been noted that out of the total fatalities, 82 per cent had been among the unvaccinated. Fatalities among the partically vaccinated and fully vaccinated had been 7.8 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively.
Canadian Health officials note that 'the Fully vaccinated individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 were significantly protected from severe outcomes.'
It has also been found that compared to unvaccinated cases, fully vaccinated cases were 72% less likely to be hospitalized and 50% less likely to die as a result of their illness
The Canadian Government has approved Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Astrazeneca/Covishield and Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines for use on its citizens. Canada reports over 3,700 daily cases and it announced 26 deaths on Friday to be added to nearly 27,000 total fatalities attributed to the pandemic.
