Olympic Athlete Tests Positive For Coronavirus In Tokyo

<p>An unnamed athlete, whose identity was not disclosed, on Thursday, tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving for the Tokyo Olympics, beginning July 23, PTI reported. The athlete has been placed into a 14-day quarantine.</p> <p>According to the latest COVID-19 Positive Case List published on Olympics.com, five other persons &mdash; four contractors from Japan and an official (non-resident of Japan) designated as a &ldquo;Games-connected personnel&rdquo; &mdash; have also tested positive.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the Australian Olympic Committee on Friday announced Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur has tested positive for Coronavirus ahead of his departure for the Tokyo Olympics. It is a matter of concern that with the increasing cases, the number of patients in the hospital is also reportedly increasing.</p> <p>In view of the Olympic Games, however, a state emergency was declared in Tokyo only last week. &nbsp;Along with this, it was also made clear that the spectators would not get entry on the field during the Olympic Games. &nbsp;Restaurants and bars will close early and no alcohol will be served during the Olympics.</p> <p>The number of Covid-19 cases in Japan has been increasing daily since June and experts believe that the number will reach thousands during the Olympics. &nbsp;So far 828000 Covid-19 cases and 15000 deaths have been reported in Japan.</p>
