Highest single day COVID death toll reported
The highest number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in a single day, 65, was recorded on Wednesday, according to the Epidemiology Unit.
However these deaths have occurred during May 7 to 31.
Twenty four women and 43 men were among the dead including an eight-day-old boy. This is the youngest death toll due to COVID 19 in the country.
The eight-day-old boy who died of COVID was reported from Pussellawa and he had died while being under treatment at the Gampola Base Hospital.
The total death toll has now risen to 1,910.
The total number of infections has risen to 213,396 with 2,716 reported in the last 24 hours.
Of the total infected, 180,427 have fully recovered and were discharged from hospitals and Intermediate Treatment Centres, while 31,059 are receiving treatment.
The first dose of COVID 19 vaccines has been given to 2,089,320 people and the second dose has been given to 361,645 people, according to the Epidemiology Unit.
