India Records 1,26,789 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, Highest Single-Day Spike Since Pandemic Began

<p>With over 1.26 lakh new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, India India recorded its highest single spike since the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country. As per data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, the country in past 24 hours reported a record single-day spike of 1,26,789 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 1,29,28,574.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ | <a href="https://ift.tt/3rUJbaR Your Shot Soon', Appeals PM Modi As He Takes Second Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine At Delhi's AIIMS</a></strong></p> <p>As many as 685 people succumbed to the deadly disease, taking the death toll due to the disease in the country to 1,66,862. According to the data updated at 8 am, the number of active cases too went upwards to breach the nine lakh-mark again. At present, there are 9,10,319 active cases of Coronavirus, which is 7.04 per cent of the total infections.</p> <p>Meanwhile, country's recovery rate has further dropped to 91.67 per cent. The data stated that number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,18,51,393, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.29 per cent.</p> <p>According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 25,26,77,379 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the country so far, including 12,37,781 on Wednesday.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ | <a href="https://ift.tt/39RagFJ Scare In UP: Night Curfew Imposed In Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur And Varanasi; Essential Services Exempted</a></strong></p> <p>Earlier this week, the central government said that the intensity of the coronavirus pandemic has increased in India. As per the union health ministry, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh are the cause of maximum concern.</p> <p>In an effort to control the spread of COVID-19, several state governments have resorted to strict measures. Night curfew has been imposed in several cities and states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and various districts of Uttar Pradesh.</p> <p>(with additional information from PTI)</p>
