  • Mark Zuckerberg announced on Instagram that he is now a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
  • Zuckerberg has been training in jiu-jitsu and MMA since the COVID-19 lockdown.
  • More recently, Zuckerberg and Musk have entertained the idea of a cage fight, though nothing has been finalized.

Mark Zuckerberg is one step closer to mastering Brazilian jiu-jitsu as speculation remains about a potential face-off with Elon Musk in a cage fight.

Zuckerberg announced on Sunday that he was promoted to blue belt in jiu-jitsu, posting some photos to commemorate the occasion on Instagram. In the pics, Zuckerberg posed next to Dave Camarillo, a fifth-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt he's been training with who has also worked with "John Wick" star Keanu Reeves.

"Congrats @davecamarillo on your 5th-degree black belt. You're a great coach and I've learned so much about fighting and life from training with you," Zuckerberg said. "Also honored to be promoted to compete at blue belt for @guerrillajjsanjose team."

Zuck's jiu-jitsu journey

Zuckerberg first started training in jiu-jitsu during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

He told podcaster Lex Fridman that learning martial arts involved him getting "beaten up a lot." Zuckerberg said he now trains in jiu-jitsu and MMA three to four times a week.

Back in September, Zuckerberg shared a video of himself exchanging punches with fighter Khai Wu. Aljamain Sterling, an MMA fighter, joked in the comments that the Meta CEO may soon be ready to make his UFC debut (this was months before Elon Musk challenged Zuckerberg to a cage fight.)

In May, Zuckerberg posted images of himself competing in his first jiu-jitsu tournament. In this post, he said that he won medals — silver and gold — and he thanked his trainers.

Outside of fighting, Zuckerberg also enjoys other types of exercise. He has experience with surfing, CrossFit and running — though he recently said that he has given up on running because "the problem with running is you can think a lot."

But whatever the mix of exercise he's been doing seems to be working. Not one to be shy about his progress, Zuckerberg posted an Instagram photo of himself posing shirtless next to two MMA fights, showing off a lean and muscular figure.

Meanwhile, the looming question is whether Zuckerberg will eventually fight Twitter — or should we say "X" — owner Elon Musk.

For now, nothing is set, but it's clear Zuckerberg isn't letting up on his training any time soon.
