India Records 8,865 Coronavirus Cases In Last 24 Hrs, Lowest In 287 Days

<p><strong>New Delhi:</strong> With a minimum surge in Coronavirus cases for the past few weeks, India on Tuesday reported the lowest number of Coronavirus cases in 287 days. The country registered 8,865 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the health bulletin released by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. A total of&nbsp; 11,971 patients recovered from the virus while&nbsp; 197 people succumbed to the virus.</p> <p>The active caseload of the country now stands at 1,30,793 which is the lowest in 525 days.</p> <p>The daily positivity rate (0.80%) is less than 2% for the last 43 days, while the weekly positivity rate (0.97%) is less than 2% for the last 53 days.</p> <h3><strong>Kerala</strong></h3> <p>&nbsp;Kerala reported a massive decline in daily Coronavirus cases as the state recorded 4,547 new covid-19 cases and 57 related deaths on Monday, taking the total affected in the state to 50,65,619 and the death toll to 35,877.<br /><br />The state health department tested 50,638 samples in the last 24 hours and there are 46 wards of 39 local self-government bodies across Kerala with a weekly infection population ratio of over ten per cent.<br /><br />Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest number of cases today--709, followed by Ernakulam and Kozhikode with 616 and 568 new infections, respectively.<br /><br />"Currently, there are 64,738 active Covid-19 cases in the state out of which only seven per cent of patients are admitted to various hospitals," the health department said in a release, as reported by PTI.<br /><br />Recoveries eclipsed new infections, with 6,866 persons recuperating from the disease on Monday, taking the total cured in the state to 49,64,375.</p> <h3><strong>Maharashtra</strong></h3> <p>Maharashtra on Monday reported 686 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 19 fatalities, taking the tally in the state to 66,24,986 and the toll to 1,40,602, an official said.<br /><br />He said Maharashtra has been witnessing less than 700 COVID-19 cases per day since the beginning of November, adding that Monday's addition to the tally was lower than Sunday, while the fatality count was higher than the day earlier.<br /><br />The discharge of 912 patients in the last 24 hours took the recovery count in Maharashtra to 64,68,791, leaving the state with 11,943 active cases. The number of people in home quarantine stood at 99,859 and those in an institutional quarantine is 1,016.<br /><br />Maharashtra's case recovery rate now stands at 97.64 per cent and the fatality rate is 2.12 per cent.</p> <p>(With PTI inputs)</p>
