What happened today:
A fresh indictment. Prosecutors criminally charged the Trump Org. and its longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg with 15 felony counts, including scheme to defraud, conspiracy, and grand larceny. Weisselberg arrived to court in handcuffs while wearing an N95 mask, and both he and the Trump Organization pleaded not guilty.
Delta spikes in four states. Delta is now the most common coronavirus strain in Missouri, Utah, Colorado, and Arkansas, virus expert Trevor Bedford said. The most striking change was in Missouri - Delta caused about 30% of sequenced cases in May and more than 80% of new cases now. Missouri also has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the US, at 36%.
"We don't give false hope to families." Elad Edri, a rescue commander at the wreckage of the condo that collapsed in Surfside, Florida, last week, said there's only a "small chance" they'll find survivors. There have been 18 confirmed deaths so far from the condominium collapse, and more than 140 people are still missing.
Baby (doge) on board. A tweet from Elon Musk caused the price of a new meme cryptocurrency called baby doge coin to surge. Musk tweeted, "Baby Doge, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo," a reference to the well-known kids' song "Baby Shark," and the price of the coin more than doubled.
Meghan's moving on. Meghan McCain is walking away from ABC's "The View" after appearing as a cohost on four seasons, the 36-year-old announced. "This was not an easy decision," McCain said. The conservative regularly clashed with her cohosts, but her departure is reportedly not related to any on-set quarrels.
That's all for now. See you tomorrow.
