Covid Patients reported from 24 areas, including 16 non- curfew places yesterday
Among the coronavirus patients detected yesterday, 42 have been identified as a group living in the same hostel in the Seeduwa area, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said.
Head of the Centre Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that from among the 194 patients detected yesterday, some were from non- curfew areas.
“Patients were detected from non- curfew areas such as Horana, Anuradhapura, Ragama, Ganemulla, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Seeduwa, Kelaniya, Colombo, Kurunegala, Pollonaruwa, Negombo, Ratmalana, Nugegoda, Kadawatha, and Hatton. These patients have been confirmed after conducting PCR tests and the address registered with the health authorities,” he said.
The Army Commander said that however, these individuals currently reside elsewhere due to work purpose.
“We are facing issues in tracking patients and those associated with them due to the registered address informed to health authorities being different to that of the current address,” he said.
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva further said that due to this issue, they once again remind patients and close associates living at hostels who are undergoing PCR tests, to remain at the location until receiving the PCR test result.
This request has been made, as there is a possibility for the virus to spread to the workplace either through you or your roommates living in the hostel, he explained.
The Army Commander further said that the wife of a patient, identified from the apparel factory in Minuwangoda, was employed at another factory in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone. The woman knowing that her husband had been detected as a patient had still reported to work. The Military Intelligence Unit had thereafter informed the factory of the woman’s activities. PCR tests were conducted on 17 employees from the factory as a result.
“This virus is contagious and spreads rapidly. Please remain cautious and act responsibly”, he added. (NewsWire)
