21-year-old suspect dies while in the custody of Pugoda Police

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremeratne has instructed for an immediate investigation to be conducted into the death of a 21-year-old suspect while in the custody of the Pugoda Police.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that the youth was arrested over drug related offences on Sunday (11).

The male suspect had died at the Ragama hospital after being admitted due to a sudden illness.

DIG Ajith Rohana said a special investigation will be conducted into the incident under a senior Police officer.

Stringent action will be taken again the OIC and other officers from the Pugoda Police Station if it is proven that they had abused their powers. (NewsWire)
