India Reports 15,906 New COVID Cases With 561 Deaths, Situation Concerning In Bengal Post Durga Puja

<p><strong>New Delhi:&nbsp;</strong>India reported <span style="font-weight: 400;">15,906 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 3,41,75,468.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meanwhile, 16,479 recoveries in the last 24 hours increased total recoveries to 3,35,48,605.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The death toll climbed to 4,54,269 with 561 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated on Sunday.<br /></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The recovery rate is currently at 98.17 per cent, which is the highest since March 2020.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Active cases account for less than 1 per cent of total cases, currently at 0.51 per cent; lowest since March 2020</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Currently, India's active caseload stands at 1,72,594, it is at its lowest in 235 days.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meanwhile, as per the health ministry&rsquo;s bulletin, the weekly positivity rate (1.23 per cent) less than 2 per cent for last 30 days.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Daily positivity rate, at 1.19 per cent, is less than 2 per cent for last 20 days.</span></p> <p>13,40,158 tests were conducted on Saturday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 59,97,71,320.</p> <p>The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 102.10 crore.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ | <span style="color: #e03e2d;"><a style="color: #e03e2d;" title="" href="https://ift.tt/3jPZ29x" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-toggle="tooltip" data-html="true" data-original-title="Story ID: 1489404">Petrol-Diesel Prices Hiked For 5th Consecutive Day, Know How Expensive Is Fuel In Various Cities</a></span></strong></p> <p><strong>Coronavirus Cases In States</strong></p> <p>Maharashtra on Saturday reported 1,701 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 33 fatalities, taking the tally to 66,01,551 and the toll to 1,39,998, the state Health department said.</p> <p>A total of 1,781 patients were discharged during the day, taking the number of recoveries in Maharashtra to 64,33,919, leaving the state with 24,022 active cases, the department said in a statement.</p> <p>With 1,36,664 new tests, the number of samples examined so far in Maharashtra rose to 6,17,62,963, it said.</p> <p>Mumbai reported 454 new COVID-19 cases and five fatalities, taking the caseload to 7,54,107 and the toll to 16,207.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the COVID-19 situation in West Bengal deteriorated further as 974 more people tested positive for the infection on Saturday, 128 more than the previous day, a health bulletin said.</p> <p>West Bengal had registered 846 COVID-19 cases on Friday. Fresh cases surged for the fourth consecutive day after the state recently witnessed the mega Durga Puja celebrations, PTI reported.</p> <p>The state's caseload rose to 15,85,466 as Kolkata registered the highest number of fresh infections at 268.</p> <p>The coronavirus death toll too soared to 19,045 as 12 more patients succumbed to the infection.</p> <p>Four fresh fatalities each were recorded in Kolkata and its neighbouring North 24 Parganas, while two deaths were reported in Nadia, and one each in South 24 Parganas and Hooghly.</p> <p>West Bengal now has 7,731 active cases, while 15,58,690 people have been cured of the disease so far, including 808 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said, adding that the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state stood at 98.31 per cent.</p> <p>On the other hand,&nbsp;Delhi recorded zero death due to COVID-19 and 40 fresh cases on Saturday with a positivity rate of 0.07 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department here.</p> <p>Only five Covid-related fatalities were reported last month, one each on September 7, 16 and 17, and two on September 28, according to official figures.</p> <p>Four fatalities due to Covid have been recorded so far this month in Delhi, on October 2, 10, 19 and 22, according to official data.</p> <p>The death toll due to the coronavirus infection in Delhi stands at 25,091.</p> <p>Kerala on Saturday registered 8,909 new Covid cases was registered after 86,111 samples were tested in the past 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 10.34 per cent, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a statement.</p> <p>He also said that 8,780 turned negative while there were 80,555 active cases in the state, of which 9.8 per cent were in hospitals.</p> <p>On Saturday, another 65 Covid deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 28,229.</p> <p><em>(With Agency Inputs)</em></p>
