McDonald's announced Wednesday that all corporate employees must be vaccinated by September 27, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The fast-food chain also opted to push back its in-office return date from September 7 to October 11 to give employees more time to get vaccinated and to build up immunity against COVID-19.
Workers will still have to wear masks in the office, even if they are fully vaccinated. McDonald's hopes to make masks optional in the future, though.
This announcement comes amid COVID-19 surges in the US, largely due to the hyper-contagious Delta variant.
"A resurgence of infections caused by COVID-19 variants has many of us uneasy," Global Chief People Officer Heidi Capozzi says. "We've heard from many of you that you would feel more comfortable returning to the office if you had more certainty your colleagues were vaccinated."
