Kerala Records Over 20K Fresh Covid-19 Cases For Fourth Day In Row; Central Team Reaches State

<p><strong>Trivandrum</strong>: Covid-19 cases in the southern state of Kerala was recorded at 20,772 in the last 24 hours. It touched the 20,000 fresh covid cases mark for the fourth day in a row. According to the government's press release, Kerala's caseload touched 33,70,137 while fatalities hit 16,701.</p> <p>The worst-affected districts were - Malappuram with 3,670 cases, Kozhikode with 2,470, Ernakulam with 2,306, Thrissur with 2,287, Palakkad with 2,070, Kollam with 1,415, Alappuzha with 1,214, Kannur with 1,123, Thiruvananthapuram with 1,082, and Kottayam with 1030 cases.</p> <p>The total number of people that were cured was 14,651, taking the total recoveries to 31,92,104.&nbsp;</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">Kerala reports 20,772 new <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#COVID19</a> cases, 14,651 recoveries and 116 deaths in the last 24 hours. The Kerala government has announced a full lockdown over the weekend. The Kerala govt has revised COVID-19 guidelines, allowing photo studios to open on allowed dates in the wake of requirements for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).</p> <p>Shops selling seeds and fertilisers were also put under essential services in a recent govt direction. The price section of the Economics and Statistics department also added in an essential category in order to help these shops remain operational on all days with the required number of staff.</p> <p>Meanwhile, a central team has arrived in Thiruvananthapuram amid rising COVID-19 cases in the state.</p> <p>"There are many concerns, rise in positivity rate is one. Cases are declining everywhere &amp; transmission is continuing in Kerala," said Dr SK Singh, Director, National Centre for Disease Control, part of the central team visiting Kerala.&nbsp;</p> <p>"Let us discuss this with the state. It's a comprehensive situation, let us see how things unfold," he added.</p>
