New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party over its allegations on an audit report about the national capital's Oxygen requirement amid Covid second wave.

The report is informed to have stated that the government demanded up to 4 times more Oxygen supply than needed. Manish Sisodia claimed that the "alleged" report does not exist.

ALSO READ | <a style="color: #e03e2d;" href="https://ift.tt/3wXoi23 Govt Exaggerated Oxygen Requirement By 4 Times Amid Covid Second Wave: SC Audit Committee

Presenting the Delhi government's response to BJP's allegations, Manish Sisodia said: "We spoke to members of the audit committee who say that we haven't signed any report or approved it".

"Where has this report come from? I ask BJP leaders to calm down and ask themselves where is this report, based on which they are levelling allegations," he added.

The Delhi Deputy Chief Minister challenged the saffron party leaders to present the report that carries signatures by the Supreme Court-appointed audit committee members.

"There is a limit to lies and deceit and BJP has crossed it. It is wrong to devise a plot over subjudice matters," he said.

BJP leaders and central government minister should present the report based on which they started abusing CM Arvind Kejriwal, he contended.

Manish Sisodia said that the arguments by BJP are insulting people who have lost their family members amid the Covid second wave. "Were doctors lying? were hospitals lying? were all patients lying?" he asked.

He urged PM Narendra Modi to take cognisance of the situation and ask the saffron party members to not indulge in such allegations.

Dubbing BJP as "Bharatiya Jhagadalu Party", Sisodia accused it of picking up fights based on lies.

Earlier today, BJP held a press conference on the said report wherein party spokesperson Sambit Patra said: "It is unbelievable to see that Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi government politicised oxygen supply when Covid was at its peak. This is such petty politics. The data presented by Oxygen Audit Committee in the report is shocking".

On May 8, the Supreme Court had formed a 12-member task force to improve the oxygen distribution system in the country. A separate sub-group was formed for Delhi which includes AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, Max Healthcare's Sandeep Budhiraja along with senior IAS officers from the Centre and Delhi each.

According to inputs, the Petroleum and Oxygen Safety Organization (PESO) has told this committee that Delhi had surplus oxygen that other states could have gotten. The continuous excess supply to Delhi could have led to a national crisis.

As per the estimates derived based bed capacity, Delhi needed only 289 metric tonnes of oxygen. But the government put forth the requirement of up to 1140 metric tonnes. It was about 4 times more than the estimated requirement, the report states as per available information.

The report of the committee is yet to be filed in court. The matter is to be heard in the Supreme Court on June 30.
