FIR Against Comedian Sunil Pal For Calling Doctors 'Demons' & 'Thieves' Amid Covid-19 Crisis

The Mumbai police on Tuesday filed an FIR against comedian Sunil Pal for his alleged derogatory comments on doctors working in Covid management and treatment. This comes after he posted a video on social media a fortnight ago that went viral. In the video Sunil has called 90% of doctors dressed in "demon suit" scares patients from morning till evening, suffering from Covid, and by end of the day the person dies of fear.

Pal further claimed in the video that these doctors are thieves who do not care for poor people.

Several doctors from across the country had objected to it, ultimately forcing the comedian to tender an apology for his comments in his next video.

And now, Andheri police registered the first information report (FIR) against Pal on May 4 based on the complaint filed by Dr Sushmita Bhatnagar, president of the Association of Medical Consultants (Mumbai).

Earlier the complaint regarding the objectionable video was submitted to the police by the association’s chairman Dr Sudhir Naik on April 22, but the Andheri police registered an FIR in the matter only on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, refuting the entire blame, Pal told TOI on Thursday, that he had already apologised for his comments and like the first video, the doctors should also see the second video in which he has stated that his comments were meant for the bad people and not the genuine doctors who are doing great work and serving the nation.

Pal told TOI: "I have also put another video apologising if anyone has got hurt with the video. But I still stand by my comments because doctors were considered as God. During these tough times, poor people are made to suffer and I have mentioned in the video 90% of doctors are dressed in demons and the rest there are still 10% doctors who are doing their duty to serve people. There is no need for doctors to get hurt if they are serving and doing their duty sincerely. Also, I did not get any notice from the police so far."

The comedian has been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 500 (defamation) and 505 (2) (public mischief) and further investigation is underway.
