'Central Govt With Vision Essential, Not Central Vista': Rahul Gandhi Takes Dig At Centre
<p>Former Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi once again criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government for not 'effectively' handling the pandemic and continuing with work on the ambitious Central Vista project at the time when citizens are grappling with the deadly second wave of Covid-19.</p> <p>Taking to his official social media account on Wednesday, the top Congress leader tweeted, "Central Vista- not essential. Last week too, he questioned the government's priority in going ahead with the central vista project at the time when "there are "no tests being done, vaccines are not available and there is shortage of oxygen and ICU beds in the country."</p> <p>Attaching a news item in his post, Gandhi highlighted that the government has invited bids for three secretariat buildings under the central vista project.</p> <p>[tw]https://twitter.com/RahulGandhi/status/1385537293176422400[/tw]</p> <p>Meanwhile India for seventh straight day recorded over 3 lakh fresh cases of Coronavirus in Single. The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday morning reported that the country lodged as many as 3,60,960 new cases of Covid-19 in last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 1,79,97,267.</p> <p><strong>Central Vista Revamp Project</strong></p> <p>The Central Vista revamp, announced in September, 2019 envisages a new triangular Parliament building, with seating capacity for 900 to 1,200 MPs, that is to be constructed by August, 2022 when the country will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day.</p> <p>The common Central Secretariat is likely to be built by 2024 under the project against which various pleas have been filed.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ | <a href="https://ift.tt/3ntd2q1 Vista Project: SC Gives A Go-Ahead To Redevelopment Plan Of Parliament Building</a></strong></p> <p>The Supreme Court earlier this year gave a go-ahead to the redevelopment plan of the Central Vista project as it pronounced its verdict on the petitions challenging the validity of the Centre's plan. The top court said the exercise of the power under DDA Act is just and valid.</p>
