Seven staffers, 11 medical students at Karapitiya Hospital directed for quarantine

Seven staffers and 11 medical students of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital were directed for quarantine when a woman under treatment at the hospital tested positive for COVID-19. She has been at the psychiatric ward of the hospital. The staffers and the medical students had been on duty at the ward, Galle District Regional Epidemiologist Venura K. Singakkara said.

Thereafter, PCR tests on a doctor and six nurses were carried out and they were tested negative for COVID-19. The PCR on the medical students yet to be carried out, he said.

The COVID-19 positive woman (56), a resident of Akurassa, was admitted to the Ward No. 2 of the hospital for a kidney ailment. Since she suffered from a high depressive disorder, she was transferred to the psychiatric ward where she had undergone the PCR test on November 8. The woman was sent to the Homagama Hospital, the epidemiologist said.
