PHI Union warns several areas heading towards coronavirus community spread
The Public Health Inspectors Union (PHI) has warned that several areas in Sri Lanka have reached the level of a community spread of the coronavirus.
According to the Daily Mirror, Secretary to the Union M. Balasuriya mentioned this, in response to the health authorities repeated statements claiming there is no community spread in the country.
Stating that a community spread is defined as having no links to existing clusters, Balasuriya said PHI officers working on the ground level have reported of such cases, with the source of transmission still unknown.
The PHI Union Secretary pointed out that one such case had been reported from the Kurunegala district, and that in the event more cases are detected, the health authorities must remain cautious of such a situation.
The Government is well prepared to handle such a crisis, while the PHI Union has informed relevant authorities in this regard, and has urged to strictly and properly monitor the process, he said. (NewsWire)
