Suspect swallows snatched golden chain after being apprehended by Police
A suspect accused of snatching a chain which belongs to a woman and subsequently swallowed it, was ordered to be remanded until the 21st of August by Hatton Acting Magistrate Mrs. Damayanthi Fernando today (08th).
The acting Magistrate also ordered for the suspect to be produced and tested by the Prison doctor, in order to get the chain from the stomach of the suspect and for it to be handed over to the Hatton Police.
The suspect is a 33-year old resident of Hatton. The snatched golden chain has been assessed to be the value of Rs. 300,000/-.
When the Crime Branch of Hatton Police received the complaint, they had enquired from pawning centres in and around Hatton as part of the investigation. Consequently, they have received information about the suspect. When the Policemen approached the suspect, he had swallowed the gold chain which he had snatched.
Upon arrest, the suspect has been subject to an x-ray test, through which it has been confirmed that the chain is in the stomach of the suspect. (NewsWire)
