Headlines 12pm: 118 people die from coronavirus, cattle market reopens
Here are the headlines from SAMAA TV’s 12pm bulletin:
- The Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi was attacked by four terrorists on Monday. The police and Rangers, however, foiled the attack within eight minutes and killed all the militants. A police officer and three security guards were martyred in the attack.
- An FIR of the Pakistan Stock Exchange attack has been registered at the CTD Civil Lines police station on orders of the Mithadar SHO. It includes sections on terrorism, possession of explosive material, exchange of fire with the police, murder and attempted murder.
- The initial investigation report of the PSX attack has been prepared. The terrorists had bought their car from a showroom seven days earlier. They were residents of Balochistan and between the ages of 25 to 35 years.
- The officer martyred in the attack have been laid to rest. Their efforts and bravery has been lauded by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
- We told the opposition to discuss Pakistan’s national security but they only concentrated on the budget, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Naya Din. “Every Pakistani wants to get rid of the novel coronavirus,” he added.
- India has banned China’s social media application Tik Tok after the Ladakh incident.
- Pakistan has opened its side of the Kartarpar Corridor with SOPs for the convenience of the Sikh devotees. No pilgrim from India, however, visited the gurdwara as the registration of pilgrims remain suspended there.
- The Rs7,294.9 billion budget for the fiscal year 2020-21 has been agreed upon in the lower house of the Parliament.
- An accountability court in Islamabad has issued a proclamation for former PM Nawaz Sharif in a case on the use of government vehicles, known as the Toshakhana reference. It ruled that Nawaz has till August 17 to appear otherwise he will be declared as an absconder in the case. The court also issued bailable arrest warrant of former president and PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari over his continuous absence. His medical reports and request for exemption to attend court hearings have been rejected too.
- An Islamabad accountability court has acquitted PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the Pira Ghaib rental power case. The reference was filed by NAB Rawalpindi in 2014. Judge Mohammad Bashir announced his acquittal on Tuesday. NAB has decided to challenge the decision in the High Court.
- A total of 118 people have lost their lives due to the novel coronavirus across Pakistan in the last 24 hours. The total death toll has reached to 4,304. More the 2,800 cases have also been reported in this time.
- Citizens across the country have been allowed to visit cattle markets to purchase animals for Eidul Azha. The Corona Expert Advisory Group has issued a number of SOPs that need to be followed by people. No one will be allowed to enter the market without masks, neither will elderly and children be allowed inside. The markets will be set up 15 days before Eid.
- The Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday announced that six cricketers, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan and Wahab Riaz, are now eligible to join the side after they tested negative for the novel coronavirus for the second time in three days.
- Burnley has defeated Crystal Palace by 1-0 in the English Premiere League. On the other hand, Read Madrid defeated Espanyol by 1-0 in the Spanish Football League.
