Emma Stone returned to "Saturday Night Live" this weekend to host the NBC comedy show for the fifth time.
Appearing on the show again proved somewhat nostalgic for the "Poor Things" star. Since her last hosting appearance in 2019, she married "SNL" segment director Dave McCary, whom she first met while shooting a sketch in 2016.
Referencing their romance in her opening monologue, she said: "I've made so many memories here and so many friends, and I even met my husband at 'SNL.'"
The cameras then cut to the creator and producer of the late-night sketch show, Lorne Michaels, as Stone jokingly blew kisses at him.
Here's a complete timeline of Stone and McCary's relationship.
December 2016: Emma Stone hosts "SNL" for the third time and meets director Dave McCary
When Stone appeared on the show for the third time in 2016, she delivered one of her most memorable performances in a sketch titled "Wells for Boys," a Fisher-Price commercial parody about plastic toy wells parents can purchase for their sensitive sons.
According to People, it was during the filming of this sketch that Stone met McCary, who had been working as a segment director for the show since 2013.
June 2017: Stone and McCary are spotted together for the first time
Just a little over six months after their introduction, the "Easy A" star attended the premiere of McCarys' directorial debut, "Brigsby Bear" starring "SNL" star Kyle Mooney.
While Stone chose not to walk the red carpet, a fan captured a video of her and McCary leaving with friends, which sparked speculation that the pair were dating.
The rumors of the blossoming relationship came almost two years after Stone split from Andrew Garfield. The two met on the set of "The Amazing Spider-Man" in 2011 and dated for four years before their 2015 split.
October 2017: Sources confirm to multiple outlets that the pair are dating
News of their romance went public in October 2017 when sources confirmed to both Page Six and People that they were officially an item.
That same month, an unnamed source told People they had been dating for at least three months.
January 18, 2019: Stone and McCary make their first public appearance together at a basketball game
The couple laid low for much of 2018, and they weren't spotted together in public until early 2019 when they attended a basketball game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers. The pair were happily photographed sitting courtside together.
Days later, McCary was seen supporting Stone at the SAG Awards, where the actor was nominated for an award for her performance in "The Favourite." While Stone walked the red carpet solo, she was photographed sitting beside McCary inside the event.
In February, McCary also joined Stone at the Academy Awards, and in May, he was seen with her at the Met Gala, according to Town & Country.
December 4, 2019: Stone and McCary announce their engagement
Stone was first photographed wearing a diamond ring on her hand in April 2019, but it wasn't until the end of that year that the couple confirmed they were engaged.
As Business Insider reported at the time, McCary shared a photo on Instagram showing Stone holding her hand to the camera to display her ring. The post no longer appears on McCary's page, as he has since wiped his page.
August 5, 2020: The couple announce the launch of their production company
Stone and McCary chose to be both business and life partners. They shared they were launching their own production company in the summer of 2020 called Fruit Tree alongside independent entertainment company A24.
"We are thrilled to partner with our friends at A24," they said in a joint statement to Deadline in August 2020. "Their commitment to thoughtful and original storytelling and embracing artists' visions feels rare and vital, and we are incredibly grateful that they support our passion to do the same."
They have since produced "When You Finish Saving the World," "Problemista," "I Saw the TV Glow," and "The Curse," which Stone also stars in.
September 26, 2020: Sources confirmed Stone and McCary are married, but it's not disclosed when they tied the knot
Sources revealed to both Page Six and People in September 2020 that the pair were married. It came after the couple were reportedly forced to cancel their planned nuptials that March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's speculated that the pair got married as early as May 2, 2020, as Stone was seen wearing a gold wedding band during a virtual conversation with Drew Barrymore. She and McCary were seen in early September 2020 wearing matching gold bands, likely spurring the unnamed sources to disclose that they had walked down the aisle together.
