Calls from George Santos' constituents were forwarded to a different GOP congressman's office
- Constituent calls to George Santos' local office were redirected to another GOP Congressman.
- A representative at Santos' office told Insider they don't know why the calls were being forwarded.
- GOP officials and Santos' constituents have called for him to resign amid his fabricated resume.
The chaos surrounding newly elected New York Rep. George Santos continued this week when constituents tried calling his office but were inexplicably forwarded to another GOP Congressman's office in a neighboring district, according to Newsday.
A Facebook user posted on Wednesday that their call to Santos' constituent office in Douglaston, New York, was forwarded to the office of Nick LaLota in Huntington, New York. Newsday reported that as of Thursday morning, calls were still being rerouted from Santos' office in New York's 3rd Congressional District to LaLota's office in New York's 1st Congressional District.
"Unfortunately, this is not George Santos' office — or fortunately, depending on your perspective," Adam Saccardi, LaLota's director of constituent services, told Newsday.
When Insider called Santos' Douglaston office Thursday afternoon, a representative who answered the phone said it was unclear why constituent calls were being redirected, but that the issue had been resolved.
Santos has made headlines in recent weeks after several parts of his life and resume turned out to be fabricated. In recent weeks it was revealed that false claims include that he's Jewish, that his mother survived the 9/11 attacks, that he was one of the first people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the US, and more.
Since Santos entered office on January 7, members of his own party have called on him to resign, but he has repeatedly refused. Even his constituents have held protests urging for his resignation, as reported by CBS News.
Representatives for Santos and LaLota did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
