Curfew in Gampaha to remain for few more days, Army Commander provides update

The quarantine curfew enforced in certain parts of the Gampaha district will remain in effect for a few more days, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said.

Head of the Centre and Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the curfew will continue, as a result of more COVID-19 patients being detected in these areas.

The Government will monitor and review the current situation, following which key decisions will be taken regarding the curfew.

The Army Commander further said that so far nearly 10,250 persons have been placed in quarantine in 96 quarantine centres operated by the military.

He also assured that there were ample quarantine facilities to address the quarantine requirements surrounding the recent COVID-19 cluster.

Contact tracing of close associates of the Minuwangoda cluster is being carried out, with most of them and their family members having already been identified and placed in quarantine, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva added. (NewsWire)
